Holy Roller!

Today is supposed to be a XT day, but I am deciding to go for a run instead.  Why?  Because I have an exciting new running toy to aide me in my way.  What is it YOU ASK? Well it is a  Nathan Speed 2 Hydrabelt.

In pink!  Yes, I am evolving into a total running geek, but I really feel like my running has been reborn lately!  In addition to the belt, I also purchased a foam roller.  I got all of this awesome stuff at Fleet Feet Sports of Pittsburgh which I have gushed about before.  I decided on a belt instead of a camelpak because I can use my Amphipod by simply placing it on the belt.  Then I am stocked full of water.  I realize there will be an ample water supply along the race course when I run, but I haven’t told you all I plan on running the Spirit of Pittsburgh but only this time with Jared! Or, he said he would run it but also said he has no need to train for it.

This belt will be perfect for my long runs during training now and in the future(!!!)

No posts on dinner last night just yet.  It is really nice to come home from work, have something homemade ready to go, and pop it into the oven.

I guess I should mention something too.  As it seems as of late I have gone on a shopping spree.  This is very unlike me.  In fact, over the last two (or three) years, the only money I spent on myself was a gym membership!  No new clothes, no running gear, nothing!  Heck, I even had a hard time balancing paying for necessities (food, college loans) because I was the atypical college grad who was educated (bachelor’s and masters) and severly underpaid.  In fact, in my old position, there were people there with less experience + less education that were getting paid more than me.  This wasn’t speculation, as my Department was investigated and reported on the local news.  That was probably my breaking point with the job.  I’d worked my ass off there, I did very well, then this story broke.  I decided it was time to move on.  Three months later, I quit.  I had a great boss, and some great co-workers, but I had to take control of my own destiny.

So regardless, yes, I am treating myself to a few nicer things.  I am aware of how this looks on my blog, and for that I apologize, but think about living a life where, over the past three years you never bought yourself one new thing.  Or, if you did, it absolutely had to be the cheapest thing possible (i.e., clearance rack with a coupon).  Not that I still don’t do this now, but $25 for a foam roller to make myself a better runner, or $30 on a hydration belt seems like a good investment.  I certainly am not buying unneeded junk.  I would never do that =)

On that same thought, I should also say that I only have $100 in credit card debt, and that is only because I put one of the utilities on the card to build my credit, I am paying extra on my student loans (my parents didn’t pay for college) and that is all I have ever wanted to do.  I’ve only ever wanted to be able to pay extra on my student loans to save on interest.  End of story.
